It’s Easy to be a Cynic

Observations While Waiting for my Beloved Car

A 2006 Subaru Legacy

(8th visit in ten weeks):

While visiting with Mr. Ronald in Management

at a stunningly organized Subaru dealership,

we discover what I call “angry humans”

and he calls the same humans “cynics”.

He is delightful to converse with

and is a huge help later when

trouble erupts with customers.

Karoline is the staff accountant

with a precious nine-year-old son.

Her remarkable husband copes daily

with a destroying liver.

She speaks of her faith and her church,

begins to weep.

She is lovely and invites us

to attend her church.

Two weeks later we visit.

Fascinating!

Sadly, Ti Amo (my Service Animal) and I

cannot handle the acoustical feedback

of the bass line

coming from

the wonderful live band on stage.

The building itself

is metal with a concrete floor,

we are placed in a back corner,

empty of humans,

with multiple metal chairs,

and no live bodies to absorb the sounds.

The bass line makes Ti Amo shake.

I feel it go right through my heart.

I feel as though I may faint.

We make it about three minutes and

quietly exit.

We each, in our own way, try our best.

Allen, a top-of-the-line mechanic,

has a love for old cars.

He is a mechanic at Subaru and

is working on my 2006 Legacy

for the eighth time

in ten weeks.

Two women enter the lobby.

One seems flustered.

I do not pretend to know why.

I welcome them as they are walking toward me

looking right at me

and my Service Dog.

The younger one appears angry.

The older one is delightful, charming,

and filled with Presence.

It is a sweet day

filled with human encounters.
